Dylan Studies Resources

Here we offer students, scholars, and fans a one-stop spot to gather information about Dylan and his work in various media formats.

Below you’ll learn about a several Bob Dylan websites, podcasts, devoted fan blogs, reputable biographies, and academic, peer-reviewed sources for all things Dylan. Together these resources provide insight not just to the fan or admirer of Dylan, but also to the scholar who studies all kinds of twentieth-century art and media.

    Bob Dylan’s Official Site

    The site contains a comprehensive repository of Dylan’s lyrics since his debut in 1962. It also features touring schedules, merchandise, and news from the Dylan camp.

    Expecting Rain

    Expecting Rain showcases the sheer quantity of Bob Dylan materials released on a daily basis. The site was founded by Karl Erik Andersen and provides updates, hyperlinks, and news about all things Dylan.

    Come Writers and Critics

    This site is maintained and operated by Michel Pomarede and features all known print material that covers Dylan in some way, including ticket stubs, fan zines, major periodical profiles, peer-reviewed journals, personal ephemera, and more.

    Theme Time Radio Hour Archive

    From 2006 to 2009, Bob Dylan recorded a weekly radio show on satellite radio called Theme Time Radio Hour. A full archive of the show is elusive due to copyright concerns, however, a special episode about whiskey is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.

    Definitely Dylan

    Hosted by Dylan Institute board member, Laura Tenschert, Definitely Dylan covers diverse aspects of Dylan’s artistic career. Many episodes close-read particular songs, converse with a guest Dylan fan or scholar, and/or reflect on live shows and other media appearances. Note that many episodes require subscription to the podcast.

    The Bobcats: A Bob Dylan Fan Podcast

    The Bobcats centers Dylan fans and fandoms, recounting origin stories both from lifelong and new fans. The podcast also interviews Dylan sleuths whose interest in the songwriter manifests in their professional and personal lives.

    Jokermen (Dylan and beyond, Beach Boys etc.)

    Jokermen receives acclaim online for its humor. The show is prolific, covering Dylan and many of his contemporaries, like the Velvet Underground and Lou Reed, John Cale, and the Beach Boys.
